Indonesia's parliament approved a new criminal law on Tuesday. Sex outside marriage is criminalized under this new law. Offenses can be punished up to one year in prison. This rule applies equally to Indonesian citizens and foreigners living in the country.

Along with this, it is forbidden to have physical relations with anyone other than one's partner after marriage.

However, the law states that the police can only get involved in these cases after a complaint from a spouse or child.

Under the new law, only married couples will have the right to have physical relations. In such cases, married or single men or women who violate this law may be sentenced to one year in prison. In addition to this, they can also be fined.

However, if a woman or man complains to their partner or parents of unmarried people, action will be taken in this matter. Complaints may be withdrawn prior to trial. But if the case starts, action will be taken according to the law.

In addition, it is forbidden to insult the president of the country and state institutions.

Three years ago, there was a crow in Indonesia

About three years ago, Indonesia was preparing to implement this law. But thousands of people started protesting in the streets, so the government had to back down. Demonstrators at the time called the violation of the law "Freedom of Speech."

According to reports, Indonesia's Deputy Justice Minister Edward Omar Sherif told Reuters. Omar Sherif said that we are proud of this decision because it represents the values of Indonesia.

Especially, if this proposal becomes a law that is widely accepted by tourists in Indonesia, not only for Indonesian citizens, but also for foreign visitors. Because of this, many business groups in Indonesia also expressed concern. He believes that this government step can affect not only tourism but also investors.
